The Android tablets are coming!!  It seems like Android tablets announcements and shipments are arriving in droves. Just a day after HTC decided to bring its 7 inch tablet, the Flyer to Europe, we now hear that LG will start selling its Optimus Pad tablet in the UK starting today.

Carphone Warehouse will be selling the 8.9 inch LG Android tablet to users in the UK. It is available SIM free for 750 GBP. The Optimus Pad is sold by T-Mobile in the US as the Gslate. The Optimus Pad, as we mentioned earlier, has a 8.9 inch display and thus, is larger than the 7 inch Flyer and the Playbook – but slightly smaller than the iPad. This might be LG’s strategy to straddle the segment and offer something that’s not too large and not too small either. Incidentally, Samsung too has an 8.9 inch version of the new Galaxy Tab being readied. So the Optimus Pad can expect some competition from its Korean counterpart soon!

LG Optimus Pad 3D Honeycomb Android Tablet

Unlike the Flyer which runs Android 2.3, the Optimus Pad runs the tablet optimized version of Android, Honeycomb. Other notable features include a 5 megapixel camera, a front facing camera for video calls and support for 3D video. The device is powered by Nvidia’s Tegra 2 dual core SoC which is also seen diligently doing duty in the Motorola Xoom as well.  The price seems a little steep to us, but if money is no object and if you happen to be in the UK, you might want to check this one out.
