Do you want to start using social media in your marketing efforts? Well so do 81% of Chief Marketing Officers who plan to link their annual revenues to their social media investment, according to a survey by CMO Club and Bazaarvoice.
We don't believe those numbers pan out to ALL CMOs across all industries in the whole world. It sounds much too high. We do agree that a large percentage of companies and marketing folks now believe that they must use social media in the future. We also agree that a large percentage of companies are planning some sort of social media efforts. But 81% linking social media investment directly to revenue? No way. Not yet.
How to navigate the social media landscape? Where should you spend your time and investment? CMO.com has made a one page overview graphic for just this called the "CMO's Guide to the Social Landscape". It breaks down the value of each of 10 popular social networks and rates each on:
- Customer communication
- Brand exposure
- Traffic that it will bring to your site
- SEO (search engine optimization)
A great read and guide for those beginning to use Social Media to enhance their business and / or marketing. We agree with most of their assessments as well. It is well worth a read for sure.
