Every day it seems that technology is leaps and bounds farther a head of it's own self from one day to the next. Sometimes it seems almost impossible to keep up with, especially if you're just the "average joe" from down the block. But if it's a business, they are constantly keeping their eyes on what's new out there in ways of technology and ways that will help benefit their business in any way possible. And even though social networking is "new technology" per say, in it's current state it would be considered new technology and it's got businesses and others taking notice. 
 


A very popular use for social networks is for business to business social networking. Business owners are beginning to understand the power that networks like MySpace and Twitter have on how images are built and they've discovered that by being involved with sites like these, it can help build their "brand name".  
 


Businesses are discovering that there are five different ways that they can use social networking for their benefit. One is the above mention building a brand name but there are four other ways a business can use networking. It can be an online reputation tool to help maintain a good reputation with the public. They can use it to help recruit others to work for them. They can learn about new technologies as well as what their competitors are up to. They can also use social networking to try and get more business clients. 
 
Another trend starting to take place on networks, are scientific social networks. Biological or Biotechnology firms and individual scientists are using networking for sharing scientific information. Scientists feel that by using social networking they are enabling themselves to not only expand their knowledge but it also allows them to broaden their minds to new and different ideas and makes them more flexible to those new ideas. 
 


Social networking is also opening a new door between teachers and their students giving them a new type of tool to communicate with one another. Because most students are already quite familiar with social networking, teachers are beginning to understand that they need to be knowledgeable with this type of communication and they are beginning to use these to their own advantage. Teachers are doing anything from chat rooms to forums that extends the classroom outside of the actual classroom with assignments, quizzes, tests, and assisting with homework assignments. Social networking is even beginning to be a communication tool between parents and teachers. With as busy as most parents are, this still gives them the opportunity to be able to have contact with the teacher without having to try and find time out of their busy day for an in person meeting. 
 


Yet another use for social networking sites is the college student taking advantage of them by communicating with their professors and getting personal help when needed. Using the social networks to find internships that deal with their line of study. Social networks for college students can also be beneficial in finding job opportunities for them. 
 


Social networking may at times seem like a thing only teens are into, but as the entity matures, more and more different groups of people from students to scientists are beginning to see importance in social networking and are seeing the positive side of it.
