Social Networking has come a long way in a relatively short time and for some it still might be something that they are not really sure that they want to be a part of. But there are some good reasons to join and perhaps after reviewing those reasons, those who have been hesitant might have a change of heart.

Remember when thinking about social networks, a lot more can be done with them these days than ever before, so there is also a lot of fun and creativity that can be found by becoming part of one.

One reason that still remains at the top of course is the ability the social network gives you to meet new people, the types of people that you might never be able to meet in your daily life, especially if it is someone from a different country and culture.

Another popular reason to join a network is in hope that you might be able to find a long lost friend, or even long lost love. By joining a network that might offer a lot of the same things you think they might be interested in, can possibly help you track down that person you have not seen in years.

Quite a few, if not most of the social networks available all offer some sort of forum where you can go and discuss with others a variety of things. It could be anything from the local news or your favorite interests. Being able to chat with others about things you are interested in not only is fun, but can also increase your knowledge of something you truly enjoy in life. It also opens the door to the possibility of learning new things that you’ve never known about before.

Another good thing about social networks is that they have a vast variety interest groups that you can choose from to join and if there isn’t a group that you like, you can always create your own.

Generally a social network will also give you your own blog. Here you can blog about whatever you like whether it is about yourself, your accomplishments, your family, their accomplishments, or your favorite things in life, etc. You name it there is no limit to what can be put on your personal blog.

Not every social network offers an option to add photo albums but a lot do. And this is always a great way to store and show off your special interest and/or family photos. It also gives you the ability to share these personally with your family and friends.

Another good feature about many of the social networks is that you have the ability to upload your videos and share those not just with your family and friends but with the world as well. If videos are a hobby of yours or you are just taping the family there is space to display your treasured videos.

Another fun feature is the ability to add music. Only a few sites allow this due to copyright infractions. Those that do allow it, such as MySpace have music libraries where the music has been given the OK to use on members pages. This is a large variety of music so you wouldn’t be disappointed.

Now on the other hand if you are in a band and you think you’re pretty good, the adding music feature would really be an asset to you and your band. You can add audio of your bands music or even videos which in the end my help promote your efforts.

When you do join a network, you are allowed to be about as creative as you can be. With so many different color schemes, layouts, widgets and apps that can be added, allows the user to create as unique of a page as they can. This way the person is making their page as personal as possible.

Believe it or not, by joining a network, there are times that you can actually find some great advice. By finding different niche networks that specially deal with only certain topics, the chances are there will be those members that might be able to help you out with any questions or problems that you might be having within a particular topic area.

Support and helping others also can be a wonderful thing found on social networks. You can probably find a lot of groups that are there as support groups for a vast variety of problems that people might be going through. This gives you and others the opportunity to support one another since everyone has at one time or another experienced the same thing.

One of the last things that is a good reason for joining a social network is for finding a place where you feel like you belong. Everyone wants to belong to something, feel like they belong somewhere and if you can find the right network, that will probably be one of the first things you will accomplish, that feeling of belonging.
