We have read several reports about exact Twitter copies around the world. China, Russia and now Germany and France. This article by Matt Marshall talks about Frazr which even has the same question as Twitter "Everyone wants to know: What are you doing?" In the comments it says there are at least 7 clones in Germany already.

The question that begs to be answered is.. How many Twitter services can the world handle? Is the main attraction the buzz, growth and depth of users and depth of 3rd party services around the real Twitter? Or is this really all about microblogging with short messages?

Jaiku does the same thing as Twitter, maybe even better, but for some reason people don't think that is 'as cool as Twitter'. We have tried Jaiku and it is a slick and great service but the problem is... Everyone is on Twitter.

If you know of any other Twitter Clones, pls post them in the comments!

This always happens. Myspace, youtube, facebook, Hi5, twitter, paypal, there are always a flood of clones that come out after these sites get real big. It's almost a lost cause though, in my opinion.

This one is similar to Twitter but not exactly a clone because it's anonymous. http://www.ventibate.com

Revou took my $400+ and supplied incomplete files, could not function if it tried. Ignored notices and eventually had to claim back from paypal

I don't think it's this one, but I believe that the Twitter concept originated from Japan. It was indeed Twitter who cloned that to be... Twitter. I'll try to dig up the link and post it soon.

ReVou is offering a similar script to start your own twitter clone site.

the point is to run your own on a website as a section or as a way to promote your business and get new clients
as good as twitter no, but you get to own the members who sign up and you get to build your own brand not twitter

Hi, i'm from germany and must say, that they most twitter-copys are totally crap. And futher more, they are senseless ... the most germans are using the original Twitter. Only frazr, one of the first german Twitter like products, is a little bit successful.
