Tony La Russa just doesn't know when (or how) to shut up.

After screaming to anyone who would listen to him two weeks back that he was suing Twitter over a username squatter (an account with, at the time, about 8 followers), Tony La Russa just hasn't been able to shut up about how badly Twitter maligned his reputation. Recently, reports have circulated that Twitter has settled the lawsuit.

Today, Twitter struck back against the rumors, calling La Russa's lawsuit "an unnecessary waste of judicial resources bordering on frivolous" and said that the microblogging platform was confident that they would be absolved in court (which could leave La Russa vulnerable to legal counteraction - more on this as the story develops).

That was the dramatic part.

The interesting part was that Twitter then previewed their upcoming "Verified Accounts" feature, which they say will allow Twitter users to recognize the difference between real Twitter celebrities (who, to be quite honest, most of us just don't care about) and Twitter impersonators (who, quite frankly, tend to be more interesting than the actual people they're impersonating).

Can you verify that Tony La Russa is a dick?

So, thanks, Twitter, for solving a problem that one over-zealous, perpetually sour-pussed MLB manager created practically out of thin air - this is TOTALLY going to effect how I use the service. Really.

Anyway, did any of us REALLY think that Tony La Russa would be smart enough to set up his own Twitter account? That's not even remotely believable.
