Is Twitter really worth $1 billion dollars? According to the latest round of venture capital for the microblogging platform, they're worth at least that much - if not more.

Startup site TechCrunch reported this week that Twitter has engaged in yet another round of funding, this time securing US $50 million dollars, putting the company at a valuation of $1 billion dollars. That's a lot for a company that has yet to make a profit or announce a firm plan for monetization, although according to Twitter themselves, the company should be earning good money by the end of the year.

Hot on the heels of our news last month that Twitter was rumored to be raising more venture capital (at a $250 million valuation), Biz Stone is reporting on Twitter's official blog that Twitter has, indeed, closed another round of funding - their third - and has secured another $35 million in new venture capital.

Venturebeat posted today that Twitter is about to announce a VC round.  It very well could be rumour but they say that Charles River Ventures has invested and the round is close to being completed.
